Saturday, March 24, 2018 – Our Florida Opening Day – Spring Training Baseball Tour will combine the final week of Spring Training games and then two regular season MLB games involving both Florida teams. We will start off the tour with a meet-up at our host hotel, the Tampa Airport Marriott, which is connected to the Tampa Airport Terminal for an easy meet-up on the afternoon of Saturday, March 24 before we head down to Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota for an evening game between the Minnesota Twins and the Baltimore Orioles.
Sunday, March 25, 2018 – The second Spring Training game on our Florida Tour will take us over to Lakeland, FL and Joker Marchant Stadium, home of the Detroit Tigers. This traditional 1:05 PM afternoon start time will allow for plenty of time to check out the grounds of the Tigers training facility before they take on the Atlanta Braves. After the game we will continue our way over to the Disney Springs Resort area in Lake Buena Vista, FL. We will check into the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista Disney Springs hotel located just across the street from the Disney Springs Center and the rest of the night is free for you to enjoy the dozens of restaurants and numerous shops at this Disney themed entertainment complex.
Monday, March 26, 2018 – We depart the Disney Springs area in the morning and head to Bradenton, FL and LECOM Park, the spring training home of the Pittsburgh Pirates since 1969. This neighborhood stadium is another prime example of a small, intimate ballpark that allows for great sightlines from every seat. The Pirates are matched up with the Philadelphia Phillies in this spring game. After the game, we will check into the Renaissance Tampa International Plaza Hotel, which will be our home for the next four nights. This 4 Star hotel offers an amazing location with lots of restaurant options just steps from the hotel.
Tuesday, March 27, 2018 – Our final Spring Training game will be a rematch between the Pirates and Phillies, but this time we will be watching the game from the Phillies home ballpark, Spectrum Field in Clearwater, FL. Once again, we will have the opportunity to get up close for a great spring game at a ballpark in the middle of a neighborhood while enjoying the Florida sunshine!
Wednesday, March 28, 2018 – Spring Training is officially over on March 28 as all MLB teams prepare for the league wide March 29 Opening Day slate of games. With this one-day lull in baseball, we take advantage of the off day to head on over to Tampa Bay Downs Horse Racing Track. Our group will have private seating, an included buffet lunch, track admission, and racing programs included for an afternoon of thoroughbred racing which has been a tradition in the Tampa Bay area since 1926.
Thursday, March 29, 2018 – Opening Day is finally here as all 30 teams are on the schedule for the first time since 1968. We will be attending the Rays home opener at Tropicana Field as they take on the Boston Red Sox. A great early season match-up between these two AL East rivals with each team’s number one starter on the mound!
Friday, March 30, 2018 – We depart our Tampa, FL hotel and make our way down to Miami, FL for game between the Chicago Cubs and Miami Marlins at Marlins Park. Along our travels from Tampa to Miami, we will make a stop at JetBlue Park in Fort Myers, FL for a ballpark tour. JetBlue Park is the Spring Training home of the Boston Red Sox and the ballpark is a replica of Fenway Park. The field dimensions are the same as Fenway including a Green Monster left field wall. There is seating atop the Green Monster just like in Boston, but also seating “within” the Green Monster. These seats are behind netting right in the middle of the wall. A truly unique ballpark that we will get to tour before we make the final leg over to Miami. After the JetBlue Park Tour and lunch in the Fort Myers area, we head over to Miami for the final game on our tour between the Cubs and Marlins before our final evening at the Miami Airport Marriott hotel.
Saturday, March 31, 2018 – At the conclusion of the Florida Opening Day – Spring Training Baseball Tour, you can check off both Florida stadiums from your baseball travel bucket list. Make sure you say good-bye to your friends from the tour and start preparations to check off more ballparks on an Arizona Spring Training Baseball Tour in 2019.
